Different game genre
Most games fall within a particular category.
Some bridge different gaming styles and, thus, could appear under more than one
category simultaneously. And others pioneer new approaches to electronic
entertainment. Those often fall outside of any pre-conceived genre. If such a
title becomes popular enough that others try to duplicate the experience, a new
genre comes into being.
· Action:-
The action game is a video game genre that emphasizes physical challenges, including hand–eye
coordination and reaction-time. The genre includes diverse subgenres such as fighting games, shooter
games and platform
games which are widely considered the most important action
games, though some real-time
strategy games are also considered to be action games. Perhaps the most basic of genres, Action is practically
all encompassing, thus, it should be applied to games whose main focus is
Action. Good examples of Action games include Devil May Cry and God of War. Not to be confused with Fighting or Combat.
· Adventure:-
Another very basic genre, Adventure is in it's purest form
a game that takes you on a journey with emphasis on locales and excitement and
usually encourage freedom of exploration. The most basic examples of adventure
games include point and click games like Full Throttle, Shadowgate, and King's Quest. Modern examples of Adventure games include Grand Theft Auto, Metroid, The Legend of Zelda and
many RPGs such as Mass Effect or Final Fantasy.
Another of the first video game genres, especially from the
computer platforms, was the adventure game. These were initially text-based
games like Will Crowther's Collossal Cave and the original Zork games. However,
as the power of the gaming systems grew, developers tried to tap into the
visual capabilities of each consecutive platform. The Atari VCS offered a game
entitled Adventure. Roberta Williams began developing the King's Quest series
for Sierra Online in an attempt to add interactive graphics and point-and-click
functionality to the more puzzle-oriented traditional text-based adventure.
There has always been a strong following for this genre because of the
challenge of puzzle-solving and the general lack of violence. This has also
made it popular for many non-traditional gaming demographics. In recent years,
LucasArts and Cyan have been known for their contributions to the adventure
genre. Other examples of adventure franchises include Gabriel Knight, Indiana
Jones, Maniac Mansion, Monkey Island, Myst, Police Quest, and Syberia.
· MMO:-
Stands for Massively Multiplayer Online.
While most modern games are playable online, a MMO constitutes that online
gameplay is the focus of the game, and that hundreds, thousands, even
millions of users can interact with each other in a real-time space
(theoretically). Very popular to mix with the RPG genre. Notable examples
include World of Warcraft, Final Fantasy XI, Everquest, Monster Hunter, and EVE Online. MMOs can enable players to cooperate and compete with each
other on a large scale, and sometimes to interact meaningfully with people
around the world. They include a variety of gameplay types, representing many video game
genres.
· Role Playing Games ( RPGs):-
The Role Playing Game genre, or RPG for
short, is a genre based around concepts from early tabletop adventures. Usually
the player consciously uses the application of mathematics to make their main
character/avatar stronger and able to act in battle more efficiently. RPGs can
either be with a lone hero or with a party, whereupon the player has to manage
the statistics of several characters instead. Examples of RPGs include Fallout, The Elder Scrolls, Dragon Quest, and Pokémon. In this
genre, players controls action of character as they wish to. This is main
genre, there are various sub genre like, action role playing, MUD, Roguelike
etc.
· Simulation:-
A simulation video game describes a diverse super-category of video games, generally designed to closely simulate aspects of a real or fictional reality. From three basic types of strategic, planning,
and learning exercises: games, simulations, and case studies, a number of
hybrids may be considered, including simulation games that are used as case
studies. By their nature, simulations are attempts to accurately
re-create an experience. These can be in the form of management simulations
like SimCity and Theme Hospital, or more hands on like MicroSoft Flight
Simulator or Gran
Turismo.

Strategy: -
Like simulations, strategy/tactics games attempt to capture a sense of realism for the game player to experience. However, these titles are often turn-based as opposed to real time and they give the player a greater sense of specific control over a situation. Franchises that fall into this genre include Ogre Tactics, Command and Conquer, Final Fantasy Tactics, and Worms. A broad-term genre for games that have militaristic/strategic combat elements crucial to victory. Some examples include Advance Wars, Steel Panthers, and Sid Meier's Civilization.

Vehicle
Simulation:-
Vehicle simulation games are a genre of video
games which attempt to provide the player with a realistic
interpretation of operating various kinds of vehicles. This includes
automobiles, aircraft, watercraft, spacecraft, military vehicles, and a variety
of other vehicles. The main challenge is to master driving and steering the
vehicle from the perspective of the pilot or driver, with most games adding
another challenge such as racing or fighting rival vehicles. Games are often
divided based on realism, with some games including more realistic physics and
challenges such as fuel management. These genres also have various sub-genres
like, Flight Simulators, racing games, space-craft etc.
· Puzzle:-
In many ways, puzzle video games are not
dissimilar from traditional puzzles. What they offer are unique environments
that are not as easily introduced in one's living room. For example, Wetrix
enables the player to build up a series of walls that would be able to contain
a deluge of water when it falls. Successful completion of a level involves
capturing enough water. Other examples include Tetris, Intelligent Qube, Puzzle
Bobble, Puyo Puyo, Devil Dice, and Mercury.
·
Sports:-
As you can imagine, sports games are those that
simulate the playing of sports. Many of these have incorporated novel aspects
beyond the games themselves. For example, most football video games like the
Madden series enable the player to create and customize teams and play them for
an entire season. Furthermore, many sports games include management elements
beyond the games themselves. There is quite a bit of variety in this genre for
fans of the games, the players, and the behind the scenes responsibilities of
owning a team.
